Bus Crash on I-80 this morning

To start off, I just have to give myself some credit.  After never blogging on my site before, I am on my second post of the day!!

I received a call from Pam, my mother-in-law this morning shortly after she departed towards Reno with my son Colby.  Evidently she was stuck in traffic on I-80 going East seeing ambulances, engines and helicopters in every direction.  An hour and a half later, she was just getting moving again.  Now Colby is not known for his steller performances in the car, but after seeing all of his favorite things (dad is a firefighter, remember) including “choppers” and “woo woos” he was happy as a clam to sit and wait.  So what was it all about?

After talking with my husband I learned the basics of a bus rollover going West Bound on I-80.  He was on scene transferring patients to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, so he didn’t see what took place, but shortly after I saw this article from the Reno Gazette Journal explaining things.  Evidently a Squaw Creek employee bus coming from Reno was delivering workers to Squaw when it went off the road, rolling multiple times and injuring over 30 people.  Westbound I-80 was closed into the late morning/early afternoon to clean up spilled fuel and removed the bus.

The stretch of I-80 from Reno to Truckee is notorious for accidents and with many narrow portions, lack of street lights, tumbling rocks and poor weather conditions, it is a good reminder to drive safe, watch the road and give some space to other drivers.

Well here goes, my first blog for my new website…it only took me 2 or 3 months!!  I am especially inspired today, feeling more room to breath and focus after dropping my 2 year old son Colby off with his grandparents for an overnight and my husband away on his 48 hour shift at Truckee Fire.  I know I needed the space and the time, but without my 2 favorite guys around, life just isn’t the same.  I am in my office here at Pacific Crest Properties in Truckee, CA working away and enjoying the view out my window of blue sky, melting snow and plenty of sunshine.  I am planning on putting in another hour or so and then heading to Trout Creek Recreation Center in Tahoe Donner to swim some laps.  Did I mention I am 30 weeks pregnant?  Yes, the laps are good for that…stretch out the muscles, get some sun and burn a few calories from the chocolate cake I just had after lunch.  Following my swim, I am hoping to take my dog Action for a stroll and meet up with a couple girlfriends at Dragonfly, one of my favorite restaurants in Truckee, for dinner.  It is odd to have time alone, for any other moms out there, I am sure you can understand.  Wanting nothing but a couple minutes to yourself and then actually getting them and thinking about your family and what they are up to the whole time.  Funny stuff!  I know my son is having a blast though and time with grandparents is so important from every angle.  Plus my brother in law AKA “Uncle Timmy” is in town after his first full season on the World Cup circuit of the US Ski Team, finishing off with a win for Giant Slalom in Alaska at the US Championships.  Colby loves him to pieces and as the only 2 red heads in both Erik’s and my families, they are truly 2 peas in a pod.  We are lucky to have family close by with my parents both local (who I also work with at Pacific Crest Properties) and Erik’s family in Reno.

Well, I guess I better get back to it, making the most of every minute that I have in the next 24 hours.  I am looking forward to connecting with a long lost friend of mine…ME!!  I forget about the old days sometimes and the simplicity that they held with time to take a bath, read a book, travel, work around the clock (there is some healthy change in that one I will say) and talk on the phone with girlfriends for hours on end.  I wouldn’t trade my life for the world and in a couple months the new addition to our family, a baby brother for Colby, will bring more to juggle, less to sleep and more to love.  Life is good and I am finding balance and happiness in ways I never could have dreamed of.  Doing what I love in real estate and raising a family in paradise.  I hope everyone else out there reading this can find something wonderful to appreciate today as well!!
